It starts in the Vault!

Exclusive Breakfast Conversation Series, specifically for Otago based engineers and client organisations, August 2024 to March 2025

Vault Private Dining Room, Distinction Hotel, 6 Liverpool St, Central Dunedin (there will be plenty of parking on the street at that time). 7:00am to 8:30am, see below for dates

What’s going on?

In today's engineering sectors, challenges like siloed planning, lack of knowledge sharing, differing objectives, bottlenecks/duplication and inconsistent processes are all too common.

These issues can lead to delays, cost blow outs, and missed opportunities for innovation.

But even more alarmingly, the mental health impact is significant. There are constant reports of isolation, lack of trust, a blame culture and turf wars.

There are a multitude of reasons why collaborating better in the engineering industry is a good idea, and we are inviting you to come and talk about it with a small group of others in your specific sector, over breakfast. We are also discovering ways that generative AI can support this collaboration, and will be facilitating a conversation around that too.

At our breakfast events, you'll have the chance to engage with like-minded professionals, share insights, and get clear and real about what’s going on. It’s an opportunity for contractors, consultants and clients to get around a table and talk. This is more than just a conversation; it’s progressing the move towards collaborating better across teams, projects, industry, community, and the country.

You are invited to an exclusive breakfast series tailored specifically for mid to senior level engineers, based in Ōtepoti.

Each session is designed to foster insightful discussions about working better together and make valuable connections within your specific area of engineering.

Who is it for?

Mid to senior level leaders in the following industries;

Design/Planning/Project Management: Initial stages of project development, and keeping things on track Friday November 29, 7:00am to 8:30am

Horizontal Construction: Infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, tunnels, and other civil engineering works, including maintenance of these infrastructures Friday February 14th (2025) , 7:00am to 8:30am

Vertical Construction: Infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, tunnels, and other civil engineering works, including maintenance of these infrastructures Friday 28 March (2025) , 7:00am to 8:30am

Utilities and Environmental Management: Water supply, wastewater management, power and gas, waste, environmental and sustainability projects DATE TBD 2025

What is it exactly?

It’s an intimate breakfast limited to six mid to senior level individuals in your specific industry, preferably with no more than one representative per company. Held in one of the exclusive private dining vaults at the Distinction Hotel, this is an opportunity to reflect and share with other people who most likely face the same day to day challenges as you do.

This is a confidential environment and a chance to have some quality networking conversations without having to deal with crowds. Your host is Laurel McLay, a facilitator and coach who is based in Dunedin and specialises in engineers working better together.

We know that the industry needs more collaboration, this is a chance to contribute to that. Please note there is no charge for attending; we simply request that if your plans change and you can’t attend, that you let us know as soon as you can, so that someone else can take your spot.

Why attend?

Focused Discussions: Each breakfast is dedicated to a specific engineering sector, ensuring relevant and meaningful conversations.

Real Challenges: Address common industry challenges such as collaboration, teamwork, and communication. Engineers often excel in technical skills but face difficulties in working well together.

Intimate and Private Setting: Located in the unique setting of the Vault private dining room and limited to five participants per breakfast, we can ensure that we feel safe in this environment. Opportunity to network and be guaranteed quality real life conversations in a safe small environment.

Find out how generative AI is supporting human connection: Many conversations around the value of AI are focused on productivity, processes and efficiencies. When working out how to collaborate better together, AI can support this, eg as a thought partner, a data cruncher and a guide/coach. We are keen to share some of the ways we are using it which might be applicable to your own organisation.

How do I register?
